GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana Pro: Which Makes Better Images
Published By DreamClip
GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana Pro is, since September 2026, GPT Image 2.5 vs Nano Banana Pro: OpenAI followed GPT Image 2 with GPT Image 2.5, and DreamClip runs the new generation as two models, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Pick Nano Banana Pro when the picture has to carry words, a chart or a layout, when it starts from a photo you already have, or when a 4K deliverable is dense with detail. Pick GPT Image 2.5 when you want a stylised, graphic look or vivid, high-contrast colour, and Flare when you want a cheaper image at every size.
As for ChatGPT, checked October 2026: ChatGPT Images 2.5 rolled out on September 8, 2026, and which variant serves a given request in the chat is OpenAI's call. DreamClip does not run ChatGPT. It runs the two GPT Image 2.5 models as models you pick, next to Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2, from the same prompt box.
The useful test is not an opinion. Write one prompt, open Compare, switch it to image, and run Nano Banana Pro against both GPT Image 2.5 variants at once. No charge applies to an image that fails. Below: text, people, edits, sizes and eight test prompts, then where each one falls short.

Which GPT Image this is, and what ChatGPT runs
Two things trip people up here. The first is the version. GPT Image 2 arrived in April 2026 and GPT Image 2.5 followed on September 8, 2026, so most searches are one version behind. The models for sale on DreamClip are GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. OpenAI pitches Flare as the everyday default and Sunburst for work where consistency across edits matters most; our studio calls Flare the typography and stylised-realism variant and Sunburst the vivid, high-contrast one. They take the same prompts, sizes and photo input, and Flare costs less per image at every size.
The second is where the model lives. ChatGPT makes images inside a conversation: the chat reads your words in the light of everything said before, the shape is something you ask for in a sentence, and a free account gets a limited number of images a day (OpenAI publishes no fixed number, checked October 2026). On DreamClip the same generation is a model you choose, with the size, the shape and the number of images set by you, and the starting price of every model sits on its card.
| Model | Maker | Sizes | Edits a photo |

Every size in the table is one you can pick in the studio today, since it prints from our catalog. Each card under it shows that model's own preview render and opens the model.

Naming, checked October 2026: the Nano Banana models are Google's Gemini image models under a friendlier label. Nano Banana Pro is Gemini 3 Pro Image, built for fidelity; Nano Banana 2 is Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, built for speed, from February 2026. If you have seen Gemini image generation compared with ChatGPT, this is that comparison, with both run as models rather than through a chat.
Text in the image: signage, labels and infographics
Legible text split image models for years, and it is still the first difference to test between these two families. Nano Banana Pro is the one to open first for anything with more than a few words: a storefront sign, a packaging mock-up with an ingredients panel, a slide with three bullets, a map with place names. Clear text for posters and intricate diagrams is the first thing Google's page for the model claims (checked October 2026), and the model is designed to keep a full sentence spelled right, in the spot the prompt gave it.
GPT Image 2.5 does well with short text, and Flare has a designer's instinct for type: a single word in a display face, a logo lockup, a sticker with a slogan. The preview on the Flare card came from a prompt for a hand-painted bakery window sign reading MORNING LOAF over sourdough and cardamom buns, and the lettering is the point of that image. OpenAI's launch post promises higher image fidelity, stronger style adherence and more control over edits (checked October 2026); for a paragraph or a table of figures, Nano Banana Pro is still the model we would open first, and the tests further down are how to check that for your own copy.
What to write when the text matters
- Put the exact words in quotation marks and say where they go: a chalkboard reading “Soup of the day: leek and potato”.
- Describe the lettering plainly: a heavy condensed sans, a brush-painted serif, a stencil.
- Keep the count low. Three lines render far more reliably than eight, on both families.
- Ask for a plain background behind the letters; busy textures are where glyphs break.
Both families render up to four images a run, and for text work you want all four: pick the one with every word right, then edit from there. Our Nano Banana page has more text-heavy prompts.
Photorealism and people
On a plain photographic prompt, a product on a table, a street at dusk, the two families are close enough that the choice is taste. The differences show on people. Nano Banana Pro tends toward a documentary look: skin keeps its texture, crowds keep their faces, hands come out with five fingers more often than not. Its preview came from a climbing gym prompt, a climber chalking up mid-conversation with a friend belaying below, and the thing to notice is that nobody in it is posing.
GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst leans glossy. Colours are saturated, contrast is high, light is warm, and a product or a landscape gets a finished advertising look with less prompting. Its preview, a roadside fruit stand at sunset with a kid handing a watermelon slice to a cyclist, could run as it is. On people that gloss can read as airbrushed, so for an editorial photograph Nano Banana Pro is the safer first try.
Prompting for a photograph on either family
- Say it is a photograph, and what kind: candid documentary, editorial, product, travel.
- Give the camera a position and a lens feel: a low wide angle, a close portrait with a soft background.
- Describe the light by source and time: window light at 4 p.m., an overcast silver sky, one bare bulb.
- Give people something to do. A posed subject looking into the lens is where both models look most synthetic.
Editing an existing photo
All four models on this page take a photo as input in the Image studio: attach the picture, describe the change, and the model edits it rather than starting over. This is the job Nano Banana built its reputation on, and the Pro model is the one we would trust first with it. It keeps what you did not mention, the face, the light, the grain, and changes what you did: swap the jacket, remove the sign in the background, turn a daytime street into dusk.
GPT Image 2.5 edits too, and OpenAI made control over edits a headline of the 2.5 generation, with Sunburst the variant it pitches for tighter control. It shines when the edit is a transformation: restyle this photo as a flat illustration, make this product shot look like a 1970s print ad. For a one-object change, start with Nano Banana Pro; for a whole-image restyle, try Flare; either way, check that the face and the logo you did not mention stayed put.
| Edit | Open first | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Remove an object or a person | Open firstNano Banana Pro | Watch forA clean fill with the background texture continued |
| Change a colour, a material or a garment | Open firstNano Banana Pro | Watch forThe edges of the change, and whether the face stayed the same |
| Put a product into a new scene | Open firstNano Banana Pro | Watch forThe label and proportions, and a shadow that matches the new light |
| Restyle a whole photo as an illustration | Open firstGPT Image 2.5 Flare | Watch forWhether the composition survived |
| Make a photo look like an ad | Open firstGPT Image 2.5 Sunburst | Watch forOvercooked contrast and skin that lost its texture |
For heavier work on one image, retouching a region, extending the canvas, swapping the background, upscaling, the Editor has a mode for each job. The photo-first method, step by step, is on our image to image page.
Resolution: 1K, 2K and 4K outputs
All four render at 1K, 2K and 4K, and Nano Banana 2 adds a 0.5K draft size. What the extra pixels cost differs by model, and the table names the cheapest and the dearest at each size; a 4K Nano Banana 2 render costs about what a 1K Nano Banana Pro render does.
| Size | Who renders it | Cost, relative | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5K | Who renders itNano Banana 2 only | Cost, relativeNano Banana 2's cheapest size | What it is forDrafts, thumbnails, testing the wording of a prompt |
| 1K | Who renders itAll four | Cost, relativeFlare the least, Nano Banana Pro the most | What it is forSocial posts, web images, a first look at an edit |
| 2K | Who renders itAll four | Cost, relativeFlare the least, Sunburst the most; Pro at its 1K price | What it is forHero images, small print, anything with text that must be read |
| 4K | Who renders itAll four | Cost, relativeNano Banana 2 the least, Nano Banana Pro the most | What it is forPosters, large screens, crops that must survive |
Resolution is not detail: a 4K render of a vague prompt is a vague image with more pixels. Prove the prompt at 1K, then render the keeper large. Pro, Flare and Sunburst each show their starting price on their card.
Prompt following: eight identical prompts to run on both
Prompt following is how much of what you wrote ends up in the frame. The fair way to measure it is the same words on both families at the same size and count. These eight prompts each stress one thing, and the last column says what to look for. Run them in Compare with Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst in the four lanes. Compare renders one image a lane at each model's smallest size, so Nano Banana 2 comes back at 0.5K; rerun the close calls at one size in the Image studio.
| Test | Prompt | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Long text | PromptA vintage train station departures board listing six cities with times, black flap letters on cream, a traveller reading it, 16:9, photograph | What to watchEvery city spelled right, six rows not five |
| Counting | PromptSeven red apples and three green pears in a wooden crate on a market table, overhead, photograph | What to watchExactly seven and three; image models often miscount |
| Spatial order | PromptA blue bicycle leaning on a yellow wall, a black cat sitting on the saddle, a red door to the left of the bicycle, 4:3 | What to watchLeft and right respected, the cat on the saddle |
| Negation | PromptA kitchen counter with a bowl of lemons, no other fruit, no text, no people, soft window light | What to watchWhether something you excluded appears anyway |
| Material | PromptA matte black ceramic mug beside a clear glass of water on brushed steel, hard side light, macro product shot | What to watchThree materials that look like themselves |
| Hands | PromptClose-up of a potter's hands shaping a bowl on a wheel, wet clay, studio light, photograph | What to watchFinger count, and clay that behaves like clay |
| Style lock | PromptA flat vector illustration of a lighthouse at night in four colours only, thick outlines, poster style | What to watchFour colours, no gradient creep |
| Infographic | PromptA clean infographic titled Water Use at Home with four labelled icons: shower, kitchen, garden, laundry, a short caption under each | What to watchTitle spelled, four icons, captions under the right icons |
What we would expect, not a measured result: Nano Banana Pro ahead on the long text, the counting and the infographic, GPT Image 2.5 ahead on the style lock, and the rest close enough to be worth running yourself.
Where each falls short
Nano Banana Pro
It is the most expensive image model in its family, and 4K doubles the price again, so it is a poor model to iterate on. Its photographic taste is restrained: a saturated, glossy frame takes more prompting than on Sunburst. It can be literal to a fault, rendering a crowded prompt as a crowded image.
GPT Image 2.5 Flare and Sunburst
Long text is where to check it hardest: a paragraph of body copy or a table of figures may need a second pass. An edit can still drift from the parts you did not mention, so compare the before and the after. Sunburst's gloss is hard to turn off for an editorial brief. Cost climbs steeply with size, so 4K is a final-render decision. And neither is ChatGPT: if what you liked was refining an image in conversation, DreamClip does not reproduce that; it gives you a model, a prompt box, a size picker and up to four images a run, and our ChatGPT image generator alternatives page covers the rest of the picker. Neither family is unmarked: Google adds SynthID, an invisible watermark, and OpenAI attaches C2PA metadata to GPT Image output (checked October 2026).
How to run one prompt on both in DreamClip
- In Compare, flip the switch from video to image.
- Pick Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Add up to two more lanes, say Nano Banana 2 and GPT Image 2.5 Flare, so both drafts sit next to both finals.
- Write a single prompt that names the subject, what it is doing, where, the light, the shape, and any exact words in quotation marks.
- Run it. The four lanes come back at each model's smallest size, Nano Banana 2 at 0.5K and the other three at 1K, and only the lanes that deliver are charged.
- Judge on what the job depends on: spelling, a face, a label. Take the winner, Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare or GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, into the Image studio at the size, shape and count you need.
That replaces every opinion on this page with images of your own. For edits, skip Compare: open the model in the Image studio, attach the photo, and describe only the change.
Questions
Is Nano Banana Pro better than GPT Image?
For text in the image, infographics, photo edits and natural-looking people, Nano Banana Pro is our first pick as of October 2026. For stylised, graphic looks and glossy product frames, GPT Image 2.5 is. Run one prompt on both in Compare to settle it for your own job.
Which GPT Image version does DreamClip run?
GPT Image 2.5, the successor to GPT Image 2 that OpenAI released on September 8, 2026, in two models: GPT Image 2.5 Flare, the typography and stylised-realism variant, and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, the vivid high-contrast one. Both render 1K, 2K or 4K and both edit a photo.
Is DreamClip the same as ChatGPT's image generator?
Not the same product. DreamClip does not run ChatGPT. As of October 2026 the chat makes its images with GPT Image 2.5, and the Image studio here runs the two GPT Image 2.5 models as models you pick, with the size, shape and number of images set by you, next to Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2.
Can Nano Banana Pro render text correctly?
Yes. Google built it for clear text in posters and diagrams, and it is our first pick of the four for it. Put the exact words in quotation marks, say where they go, keep the line count low, and render at 2K or 4K when the text has to be read.
Which renders the cheapest 4K image, GPT Image 2.5 or Nano Banana Pro?
GPT Image 2.5 Flare: its 4K image costs about half what a 4K Nano Banana Pro image does, while Sunburst sits just under Pro. The cheapest 4K of the four is Nano Banana 2, a hair under Flare, at about the price of a 1K Nano Banana Pro image.
What is the difference between Gemini image generation and Nano Banana?
They are the same models under two names, as of October 2026. Google calls its Gemini image models Nano Banana: Nano Banana Pro is Gemini 3 Pro Image, Nano Banana 2 is Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. The Gemini app runs them inside a chat; DreamClip runs them as models you choose.
